Access to the Amazon Getting Easier

10 Oct, 2008

Currently it takes more than 30 hours to get to the Amazon from Japan, flying from Narita, first to a US airport, to Sao Paulo and then to Manaus.

The good news is ...

that Delta Airlines is slated to fly a daily flight connecting Altanta-Manaus-Fortaleza-Recife (150 passengers), beginning in the latter part of December.

If you take this flight, you will be able to fly from Narita to Manaus in about 24 hours, including a two-and-a-half-hour waiting time at Atlanta and a 7-hour flight to Manaus. The airfare is expected to be around 200,000 yen (ca.US$2000 at the current exchange rate of 100yen/$), which means you will be able to get to Manaus in about the same amount of time and at about the same airfare as you fly to Sao Paulo.

For those of you flying from the Kansai area, there is also a Dubai Airlines flight connecting Nagoya-Dubai-Manaus, which takes you to Manaus in about 24 hours; however, this flight is only available once in a week.

I hope the addition of a new flight will bring more people to the Amazon.
